Level placement

ADMISSION – your start at DJam

Before starting your studies at DJAM, you’ll take an admission test. Based on this test, you’ll be placed at one of four levels for each subject, depending on your current musical development. The results of your audition will usually be shared with you immediately afterward, both verbally and in writing. A fee is charged for the admission test.

If it turns out after a few lessons that you were placed at a level that’s too high or too low, a change can be made in consultation with your teacher.

Progress exams – ready for the next level?

In May and June, you’ll take exams in all subjects—except APM and your main subject. These exams assess whether you’re ready to move to a higher level in the following course year.

Everyone learns at their own pace. Because each year covers a significant amount of material—and since you may find some subjects easier than others—it’s not uncommon to need more than one year to complete certain courses.

You’ll receive a report at the end of the academic year summarizing your exam results, including feedback and suggestions for further development.

ℹ️ The results of all exams are only valid for a limited time. If you do not start or continue your studies at DJAM in the same year the exams were taken, you may be required to retake them.

Re-exams – One more chance

If you missed your progression exams or are not satisfied with your current level placement, you can take a re-exam. These are held during the same period as the admission tests. Re-exams also involve a fee and are limited to a maximum of two subjects.

ℹ️ Please note: In some cases, taking main subject lessons is required to participate in combo classes or to be placed in a higher combo level.
