Goals and objectives

DJAM is a private school for Jazz and Popular Music, founded in 1990.

The program offers a multi-year course in which theory and practical subjects are closely integrated. Our dedicated and experienced teachers work together intensively to provide students with the best possible guidance.

Students can choose from three different course packages, which can be supplemented with individual main subject lessons. By offering courses on four levels, the program is suitable for beginners as well as advanced musicians. A entrance exam determines the level for each subject, after which students are placed in suitable groups.

We work with small groups to ensure plenty of personal attention. The atmosphere at DJAM is one of enthusiasm, focus, dedication, and collaboration. DJAM also provides excellent preparation for conservatory-level studies, both practically and theoretically.

But DJAM is more than just a school – it’s a meeting place. Students connect, play together, practice, and grow as musicians. Like every serious musician, the program itself is constantly evolving and improving.

The DJAM concept

The DJAM concept was developed by Christian Hassenstein in collaboration with teachers from various Dutch conservatories.

The focus is on developing strong musical knowledge and skills, with a special emphasis on improvisation. Individual aspects such as instrumental technique, theory, and ear training receive focused attention, while group lessons emphasize listening, ensemble playing, and building a repertoire.

Our goal is to help students take meaningful steps forward in their musical development.

Thanks to this well-thought-out structure and the integration of all subjects, DJAM has earned a unique position in Dutch music education.
